I'll Mid-Season Replace You!
Ian was still being invited to these stupid WB parties even though they'd practically axed his show. He grumbled into his free drink and glowered at the people around him.
Stupid, fucking executives and their pushing him to mid-season. The kiss of death. He fucking hated the WB. The only reason he showed up to these things was because of the free alcohol and food. The food at these parties kicked ass.
He sighed as he realized his drink was empty. He scanned the room, looking for the bar with the shortest line and pushed his way over to it.
"Hey," someone said.
Ian looked up and frowned. Must be someone who didn't know about his show. Otherwise, he was like pariah. Even Rachel didn't talk to him in public anymore. Like it was all * his* fault that the show was fucked with.
"Hi," Ian answered before he ordered his drink and sighed again when he realized the pretty boy next to him wasn't going away.
"I'm Tom Welling," the guy said. He stuck out his hand and Ian stared at it for a second before shaking it.
"Ian Somerhalder," he introduced.
"I know. You used to be in Young Americans. I loved that show."
The WB had cancelled that show too. Fuckers.
Ian tried to smile. He vaguely recognized the kid.
"I'm on Smallville," the kid continued.
Oh, that was great. The WB's favorite fucking cash cow. Ian decided he was going to have to hate this kid, no matter how nice he was. He started to make an excuse to go talk to someone, but Tom put a hand on his arm.
"I'm sorry about them pushing your show around. I was looking forward to seeing it."
Maybe he wasn't going to have to hate the kid.
Ian smiled. "Thanks. Hey. Don't you work with Michael Rosenbaum?"
Tom nodded eagerly. "Yeah. We're pretty good friends. He was supposed to be here tonight, but I haven't seen him," he said almost sadly.
"I met him years ago when he was doing Duncan, Joey, Jane and Jack or something when I was doing Young Americans."
Chuckling, Tom said, "It's Zoë, Duncan, Jack and Jane. But the only reason I know that is because he was being weird last week and made me watch all of his tapes.
Ian laughed. "I do that sometimes." He sipped his drink and surveyed the crowd again. Tom seemed like he wanted to say something else. "How long has Smallville been on? I've caught it a couple of times, but with my movie schedule, I missed a lot."
"This will be our third season."
"Really?" Ian was still a little bitter. He bit back a comment about pretty boys and gay superheroes.
"Yeah. I was sure we'd be cancelled after the first year. But we hit our stride last year. At least that's what all the critics say." He shrugged. "What do I know? I'm just a dumb model."
"Hey! I'm just a dumb model too."
Tom grinned. He was gorgeous when he did that, and it was infectious; Ian couldn't help smiling back. Ian wondered why Tom kept talking about Rosenbaum that way. Maybe their relationship was just a little bit more than the kid had suggested.
"Michael was always telling me not to get my hopes up, especially with the WB. But we got lucky, I guess."
Ian wanted to leave. This kid was too nice. And Ian was way too bitter to be that happy. Plus with as much alcohol as he'd had, he couldn't help thinking dirty thoughts about the kid.
"Oh! There's Michael!" Tom's face lit up and he waved across the room. When Ian saw the answering look on Michael's face, a different set of dirty thoughts filled his mind.
He knew exactly what their relationship was.
