Needy

Chris expected Joey to be the hardest to convince. Maybe because of Kelly, or maybe because of his constant schedule.

Or Justin. He was almost sure that Justin would say no because of filming or because of Cameron.

JC he’d been sure would beg off because of his new grueling touring schedule that didn’t even have him in the same country.

Lance would probably say yes. Thankfully, he did.

The hardest thing turned out to be coordinating a day and time for everyone to get away. But that part didn’t matter as much. Because everyone said yes.

Chris had just said that he’d needed them. And that he missed them. And they’d all said things like, ‘Sure, man, when were you thinking?’ and ‘That’s a great idea, I can’t wait.'

It didn’t actually take as long as Chris had feared. A couple of weeks for Justin and JC to smooth over schedules and everyone else to plan a couple of days. The pretence was easy. And true. Chris missed them. He needed them.

It wasn’t the first time. Justin had been the first. Well, the first since the hiatus, really. Just before his album had dropped, he’d called them all panicked. It had only taken a few soft words and touches and he’d been calm enough to face everything again.

When Lance came back from Russia and the media and family had all gone away – that was when it was Lance’s turn to freak out. That he was maybe a failure or that he’d never achieve anything. The other guys had all come through for him then.

Chris had kind of expected JC to be the next one. That he’d maybe lose perspective on his upcoming tour and promotional whirlwind, but he’d taken it in stride. Chris wasn’t disappointed – he just hadn’t wanted to admit defeat to himself.

He’d probably needed this for a while.

When the doorbell rang, for the first time in a long while, he didn’t hesitate to answer it.
